CpE Handbook: General Policies
CpE Handbook: General Policies
The following general policies have been excerpted from the University
Undergraduate Announcements
and are provided as general constraints to be considered in planning an individual academic program.
- Requirement on Number of Attempts
"No student may exceed a maximum of two attempts, excluding a W, to successfully complete any electrical and computer
engineering course." This rule applies to all students who enter either the Computer Engineering or Electrical
Engineering program during or subsequent to the fall 1994 semester.
- 300 Level Course Prerequisite
"A cumulative grade-point ratio of 2.0 or higher is required for registration in all engineering courses numbered 300
or higher."
"All Electrical Engineering students must have a cumulative Engineering grade-point ratio of 2.0 in order to enroll in
any 300- or 400- level electrical and computer engineering courses."
- Requirements for Graduation
"A cumulative grade-point ratio of 2.0 is required for graduation."
"For graduation, candidates will be required to have a 2.0 or higher cumulative grade-point ratio in all engineering
courses taken at Clemson University. All of these courses exclusively utilize the word 'Engineering' in the course
designator (i.e., AGE 221, ME 499, etc.)."
- Withdrawals
"Each undergraduate student is allowed to withdraw or be withdrawn with grade of W from no more than 14 hours of course
work during the entire academic career at Clemson University. Transfer students may withdraw from no more than 10 percent
of the total work remaining to be done."
- Policy on Electives for Engineering Curricula
A student may take any course for elective credit unless defined as remedial (defined in catalog as remedial) or the
course is proscribed by the offering department. A student who takes MTHSC 105 before MTHSC 106 will get free elective
credit. A student who successfully completed MTHSC 106 cannot go back and take MTHSC 105 because the Math department
does not allow it.
ENGL 100 is a remedial course and is prohibited. Physics 200, 207, and 208 are not allowed since Physics 122-221 is
required and the Physics department does not allow credit for both sequences.
- ROTC Credit
"No more than ten hours of aerospace studies or military science may be counted toward the baccalaureate degree in
any curriculum."
- Musical Ensembles
"In Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and University Chorus, the combined courses may be repeated for credit,
with a maximum of four hours ensemble credit allowable toward a degree."
- Economics 200, 211, and 212
"Credit will not be given (for ECON 200) to students who have already completed ECON 211 or ECON 212. Students may not
take ECON 200, 211, and 212 (in any order) to fulfill the Social Science 9 credit hours in a given subject area option."
- Prerequisite Requirements
"A student is allowed to enroll in ECE courses (excluding ECE 307, 308, 309, 310) only when all prerequisites, as defined
by current official listings for that course, have been passed with a grade of C or higher."
- Minors
"A minor in Computer Science requires CP SC 212 and 12 additional credits in computer science of which at least nine
credits must be at the 300 level or higher."
"A minor concentration in Mathematical Sciences requires MTHSC 208 and 12 additional credit hours in mathematical science
courses numbered 300 or higher." Note that the Computer Engineering Curriculum includes MTHSC 208, 311, and 419. Thus only
6 additional hours are needed for the minor.
