Graduate Student Handbook: General Policies
Graduate Student Handbook: General Policies
- Undergraduate Co-Requisite Courses (Deficiencies)
The EE and CpE graduate programs are not designed to be "entry-level" programs; therefore, students are expected to have
the appropriate technical background (see the admissions requirements) prior to entering
these programs. If undergraduate co-requisite courses were specified as a condition of a student's admission, it is important that these be taken early in the program in order to provide the student with background for graduate courses. Normally, these deficiencies are removed by taking (for credit) and passing the required courses during a normally scheduled course offering.
Unless otherwise specified, a grade of C or better is required for undergraduate co-requisites. If undergraduate
co-requisites are fulfilled by examination, the examination(s) must be written by the course coordinator and be
taken during regularly scheduled examination periods. Normally, deficiencies must be removed during the first year
of graduate study.
- EE-CpE Change of Major Limit
EE and CpE students are permitted a maximum of one change of major during their academic program. Requests for change
of major are initiated by a Change of Major Request Form available from the Student Services Program Coordinator for
the Graduate Program.
- Restrictions on 600-level courses
No graduate student may receive 600-level credit for an undergraduate course which is required as part of the
corresponding undergraduate curriculum. Thus, for example, CpE students cannot receive credit for ECE 617, ECE 626,
or MthSC 619. In addition, no graduate student may receive 600-level credit for an undergraduate course that is
substantially the same in content as an undergraduate course that is required as part of the corresponding undergraduate
curriculum. For example, neither CpE nor EE students can receive credit for MthSc 600 because it is substantially the
same in content as ECE 317. Finally, students who completed undergraduate work at Clemson cannot receive both undergraduate
and graduate credit for the same course.
